Our Artist in Residence Program at Chateau du Fresne invites both emerging and established artists of all disciplines to embark on a creative journey within the fascinating surroundings of Mayenne and the Loire Valley. Immerse yourself in the beauty of your surroundings and let the history of Chateau du Fresne be your muse.
We welcome all Artists, Amateur or established - Worldwide! Painters, Writers, Photographers, Musicians, small scale Sculptors, Poets, Illustrators, Digital Artists, etc.
Who will enjoy the perfect location for working for a while on a piece, an exhibition, a book in the perfect surroundings of a historical castle in a very quiet area but with a lot very close by. CdF is only one stop by TGV from Paris and Rennes/Nantes. In one hour, you are in the middle of Cultural Paris.
The House offers a very comfortable and historical place the stay. The stables have a very spacious studio space and nearby we have relations with more specific studios for ceramics, printing, bookbinding, and textile workshops in one of the best traditional textile factories of France.
Being an artist in residence means a contact with the owners Angelo Tromp and Gijs Stork with an amazing international track record and network of curating, artbook publishing, producing, advising in Contemporary Arts, Crafts, History and Queer Culture.
Chateau du Fresne has a full exhibition program by well-known and emerging contemporary artists and a culture program for concerts and workshops. We invite the artist in residence to share their process with the audience and make a (small) presentation of the result or their process with an opening
Chateau Du Fresne collaborates with several art institutions in the region like CAC Kiosque in Mayenne, Frac in the Loire, Museums, and art spaces. CdF collaborates with several international cultural attaches from Embassies in Paris, works together with the Institut Neerlandais In Paris.
